"Herbert Noel 'Taffy' Grimwood embarked on a historic journey on July 28, 1941, when he set sail alongside the 58th Suffolk Medium Regiment to join the ranks of the British Forces during wartime. His unwavering commitment led him from Sidi Omar to Tobruk, where he valiantly fought until his capture in June 1942. What followed was a harrowing saga of nearly three years spent in various prison camps, spanning from the southern reaches of Italy to the heart of Cologne in Germany.

Upon his initial capture, Taffy embarked on a poignant endeavor - maintaining a diary that painstakingly chronicled the daily trials and tribulations of life as a prisoner of war. These entries documented the relentless struggles to remain physically fit, secure sufficient sustenance, and, above all, to preserve one's own life.

The turning point arrived on May 8, 1945, when Taffy took his first steps out of the prison camp, finally tasting the sweet nectar of freedom. This is the compelling narrative of a man dutifully fulfilling his obligations, navigating the tumultuous waters of POW existence. It's a tale of unsung heroism, the quiet bravery that countless servicemen exhibited during their time in captivity."
