French Lyrics by George Saintsbury.

The first finished specimen of composition in the French language, which we possess putting aside the purely documentary Strasburg oaths, is a lyric, the Chanson de  Eulalie. This poem, though written in a language which has scarcely yet undergone the full process of digestion which was to turn Latin into French, shows already considerable faculty in the special department of poetry to which it belongs.

Note: the poems are in French.
