David Livingstone's life's work encompassed both missionary and explorer roles, merging into a singular legacy as the African continent's most esteemed and impactful foreign traveler. Throughout his thirty-two-year odyssey, he traversed vast distances by foot, oxcart, canoe, and boat, often relying on the assistance of local companions. In an era when much of the African terrain remained a mystery to Europeans, Livingstone's expeditions covered a staggering forty thousand miles, solidifying his status as the first white man to cross the continent from west to east. Additionally, he earned the distinction of being the first to lay eyes upon the majestic Victoria Falls, to which he bestowed its name.
